Lutein
The power of a single flower.
Overview
Product Overview
Lutein, an antioxidant abundantly found in flowers such as marigolds, supports the body’s natural antioxidation and anti-inflammation responses, thus helping to reduce free radicals that cause retinal injury. Research has demonstrated that lutein is crucial for enhancing eye health by providing a yellow filter that absorbs blue light in the retina, promoting macular wellness and improving glare recovery. Additionally, studies have shown that lutein increases the accumulation of pigment in the macula, thereby increasing its density. This capability is linked to enhancing ocular function and mitigation of the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Furthermore, Lutein has shown favorable outcomes in promoting brain health and skin health as well.

Lutein HZ's Synergy
Zeaxanthin, Like lutein, is an essential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent that supports the body’s natural antioxidation response and is crucial for maintaining optimal eye health. Our bodies naturally accumulate zeaxanthin and lutein in the macula, where they form macular pigment—a protective layer that shields the eyes. Xanthophyll pigments, including lutein and zeaxanthin, are abundant in various vegetables and fruits.
The National Eye Institute in the USA has embraced a new strategy for eye health informed by the significant findings of the AREDS2 study. Their latest guidelines highlight the critical role of lutein and zeaxanthin in daily eye care regimens. The new standard of care advises a daily intake of at least 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin, as these levels have been clinically shown to enhance macular pigment density, thereby offering stronger protection for the eyes.
Achieving these recommended levels through diet alone can be challenging, especially for zeaxanthin, which is relatively scarce in common food sources. Typically, dietary intake of lutein ranges from 1 to 2 milligrams per day, with the ratio of lutein to zeaxanthin in the diet generally around 5:1. This underscores the importance of considering supplementation to meet the recommended intake levels for optimal eye health.
